Burberry

The Burberry brand began in 1856 when a young Thomas Burberry opened his outdoor clothing store in Basingstoke in 1859. The brand quickly became known for its waterproof-yet-breathable gabardine fabric, which Thomas patented. The now iconic Burberry check was created in 1924 when it was used as a lining in the brand’s trench coats. Today Burberry is also well known for its fashionable handbags and exclusive fragrances. Its first perfume was launched in the 1960s and it now has a best selling range of over ten fragrances that are part of the brand’s heritage of tradition, understated luxury and enduring British style.
