The perfume house of Prince Matchabelli was founded in 1926 by Georges Norina Matchabelli a Georgian Prince who became an ambassador to Italy after the Russian revolution and was also an amateur chemist. The perfumes were personally blended for clients by the prince himself and the first three, Princess Norina, Queen of Georgia and Ave Maria, were very popular. The house was sold to perfume manufacturer Saul Ganz after he died in 1935 and it is now owned by Anglo-Dutch company Unilever. It is most famous for its colour coded, crown-shaped bottles based on the design of the Matchabelli crown.
